Your network stays yours.
Effective 8 October 2026 · Applies to Crios: Network IP Port Scanner for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and Windows, and to this website
- No account. You never sign up or sign in.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.
- Nothing is sent to CrioSoft. Scans, results, your device list and your notes stay on your device. We have no server that receives them.
- The only time we see anything is when you write to us — for example from the app's feedback prompt.
Who we are
Crios is made by CrioSoft LLC (“CrioSoft”, “we”). If you have a question about this policy or your data, email [email protected].
What the app does on your network
Crios is a network scanner for networks you own or manage. To build its picture of your home network it talks directly to the devices on the network you choose to scan:
- Port checks. It tries to connect to a list of common ports on each address in the range you scan, to learn which devices are present and which services they offer.
- Device discovery. It listens for and asks for Bonjour/mDNS and UPnP/SSDP announcements, and looks up hostnames using the DNS server your device already uses (normally your router).
- Identification. It may read the title of a device's own web page or a service's greeting to tell what the device is.
- Your router. It asks your router, read-only over UPnP, which ports it forwards from the internet, so it can tell home-only findings from internet-facing ones. It never changes your router's settings.
- On a Mac or Windows PC it also reads hardware (MAC) addresses from your computer's own address table to look up device makers. On Windows it can also ping devices and ask for their NetBIOS names.
- On Windows, “This PC” reads your own computer's firewall, network-profile and listening-port settings to point out risks on the PC itself. It only reads them; it never changes them.
These requests stay on your local network. Crios does not scan anything on the internet and does not use any outside service to check your public address.
Scans start only when you start one, or on an automatic-scan schedule you turn on yourself in Settings (off by default).
What is stored, and where
Crios stores the following only on your device, inside the app's own private storage (on Windows, your local app-data folder, shown in Settings › Data):
- Scan history: the addresses scanned, devices found, open ports, findings and timestamps.
- Your device inventory: device names and types, addresses, makers and models, and anything you add — custom names, owner, room, notes and trust settings.
- Your settings, and the app's count of how often it has been opened (used only to decide when to show the feedback prompt).
- On Windows, a diagnostic log of the app's own errors, kept in the same local folder and never sent anywhere.
- Reports you export are saved or shared only where you choose.
Device backups. If you use your phone's own backup — iCloud Backup on iPhone and iPad, or Android's backup to your Google account — that backup can include Crios's data, as it does for most apps. Those backups belong to your Apple or Google account, are controlled by your device settings, and are not accessible to us.
Deleting it. Delete individual scans in the app, use Settings › Reset device inventory, or remove the app to delete everything it stored.
Connections to the internet
Crios itself does not connect to CrioSoft. It reaches the internet only in these cases, each started by you:
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| You tap Download or Update for the full vendor database in Settings | The app downloads the public list of hardware makers from the IEEE (standards-oui.ieee.org). IEEE's server sees an ordinary download request, like any website visit. No scan data is sent. |
| You open a link — a security advisory, a vendor's support page, a device's web page, this website | The page opens in your browser and is subject to that site's own privacy policy. |
| You rate the app | The App Store, Google Play or Microsoft Store opens. Ratings and reviews are handled by Apple, Google or Microsoft. |
| On Windows, when the app checks its licence | The Windows Store service confirms with Microsoft that your copy is licensed, as it does for every Microsoft Store app. CrioSoft does not receive anything from this. |
| You email us from the feedback prompt or Settings | Your own mail app opens a message to [email protected]. Nothing is sent until you send it. |
On-device intelligence
Explanations, briefings, name suggestions and the Network Assistant run on your device. On iPhone, iPad and Mac they use Apple's on-device foundation model when Apple Intelligence is available and turned on. On Android, a built-in analyst inside the app produces the answers. On Windows, a built-in analyst answers, or Windows' own on-device model on Copilot+ PCs. Your scan data is not sent to Apple, Google, Microsoft, CrioSoft or any AI service to produce them.
Permissions the app asks for
iPhone and iPad
- Local Network — to find and check devices on your network.
- Notifications (optional) — to tell you when a new device joins.
Mac
- Network access — to scan your network.
- Control Terminal (optional) — only when you choose Check in Terminal, to open Terminal with a port-check command for you to run.
- Notifications (optional) — for new-device alerts.
Android
- Internet, network state, Wi-Fi state and Wi-Fi multicast — to scan the Wi-Fi network you are on and hear device announcements.
- Notifications (optional) — for new-device alerts.
- Run at start-up — only to keep your automatic-scan schedule after the phone restarts.
Windows
- Network access — to scan your network. Windows may ask once to allow Crios through the firewall.
- Notifications — new-device alerts, which you can turn off in Settings or in Windows.
- Start with Windows (optional, off by default) — only if you turn it on, to keep the notification-area icon and your automatic-scan schedule running.
Crios does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
What we receive
From the app: nothing. We do not collect, receive, sell or share scan results, device lists, network names, addresses or any other personal information from the app.
From the app stores. Apple, Google and Microsoft give developers aggregated statistics — such as install counts, and crash reports from people who have chosen to share them with developers in their device settings. These are provided by the store under its own privacy policy; they do not include your scan data.
When you email us. We receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and help you, keep it only as long as needed for that, and never sell it or use it for marketing. Ask us at any time to delete your messages.
This website
criosscan.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. It loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's font servers, which receive your IP address and browser details (see Google's privacy policy). Like any website, our web host may keep standard server logs, such as the IP address and pages requested, for security and operations.
Children
Crios is a tool for people who manage a home network and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Because the app keeps your data on your device, you are always in control of it: view, change or delete it in the app, or remove the app. For emails you have sent us, you can ask us to access, correct or delete them at [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honour them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Crios handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships. Material changes will be described in the app's release notes.
